"Why complicate things?" A familiar master suggested how and where it is easiest to drain water from the roof (a simple but effective solution)
There are many ways to make roof storm drains. Someone builds them from plastic pipes, someone from metal, buys special factory materials. But, for example, for outbuildings, summer cottages, or in the absence of sufficient financial resources, you can use what is available at hand.
I liked a very simple way, which I propose to use for you.
Necessary materials
We do not need special aesthetics for the outbuilding, so we will use the following materials:
- metal profile for drywall installation;
- plastic bottles;
- rubber hoses;
- container for collecting water.
The metal profile comes in different sizes, you can use any, even a very long time used. The standard size is 3 meters, if the roof is smaller, it will have to be cut.
Principle of operation
Along the edge of the roof we fix the profile for the installation of drywall. Depending on the roof itself, it can be attached by welding, nails or screws, wire, or any other convenient method. I have it fixed to the screws on the side wooden partition. Don't forget to open the sides a little.
At the end where the water will drain, a piece of a plastic bottle is inserted. One part is cut under the profile connector. We insert an old rubber tube or hose into the neck.
All water is collected in a barrel. This is much more convenient than a simple drain immediately from the storm drain - the water will always drain exactly at that the place that is needed, nothing will spill or splash, even if it blows strong wind.
If your collection point is only on one side of the drain, be sure to make a slight slope in this direction. If water is collected on both sides of the roof, the collectors must be on both sides. True, keep in mind that in this case, water may stagnate in the profile if it does not rain so often in your area. Periodically, the entire structure will still have to be cleaned of leaves, but in this case, also from the resulting duckweed.
But on the other side of the house, a special ditch was dug, through which water flows down. Here, the barrel just got in the way and there was no point in it. And the rubber tube clearly directs the water to the place that is needed - into the dug ditch.
If my method is useful to someone, I will be very glad. The option is very affordable, inexpensive, and most importantly - convenient. This water can be given to animals and watering plants on your homestead.
