More modest repair! Or 6 Ways to Update Your Bathroom Without Going Broke
It's no secret that a major bathroom renovation can be compared to a local disaster. Especially if you have to change, for example, ceramic tiles. After all, this means that the apartment will be 100% very noisy and dirty! And your family budget will significantly lose weight. Do you need it if you can get by with much less effort?
Good afternoon dear friends!
The main thing is to take up repairs wisely and try to find alternative upgrade options. For example, it is not at all necessary to change that tile that does not have visible defects or is only covered with a “mesh” in some places. You can get by with compromise solutions that will allow you to significantly refresh the interior of the room, but will not be so costly in terms of time and budget.
In general, I will not rant for a long time, but I will tell you 6 budget ideas for renovating a bathroom with old tiles.
1.Tile coloring. A rather difficult, but working option that can radically transform the bathroom. The main thing is to prepare the surface in advance, choose the right paint and color, and of course think over the design. Alternatively, you can alternate different shades of the same paint on the tiles, draw vertical / horizontal stripes, repaint the floor or wall, thereby creating an accent surface.
By the way, sometimes you need to repaint only one or two dozen tiles to update your bathroom so that your bathroom gets a fresh look and a new style.
2.Drawing a pattern using a stencil. Did you know that a plain tile is very easy to transform with a stencil. You only need to fix it well, be patient and carefully (very carefully!) Transfer the pattern. Thus, you can change the design of both large tiles and small mosaics. It is even easier to work with small details, because, in fact, a stencil is not needed. You can simply paint individual elements with contrasting paint, creating a flower pattern or a large hexagonal tile.
You can draw patterns both on the walls and on the floor. But be prepared for the fact that you have to apply at least two coats of paint. Therefore, choose simple ornaments and practice on unnecessary tiles before starting work.
3.Alteration of tile joints. It is known that the seams lose their attractive and neat appearance much faster than the tile itself. Therefore, if the main cladding suits you completely, and the tile joints are not very good, then you can refresh the interior of the room only by redoing them. To do this, you must first remove the old grout, select a material of a contrasting (black / white) or bright (green, orange, pink) color, and then grout it.
You'll be pleasantly surprised to see how eye-catching fresh seams change a boring tile, making it look completely different.
4.Installation of quartz tiles. Not the most budget option, but it would be wrong not to talk about it. Since it also allows you to abandon the dirty and noisy dismantling work. After all, quartz vinyl can be laid on the floor, walls over tiles or porcelain stoneware. Plus, it's water-resistant and comes in many different patterns, colors, and textures.
The only thing before installation is to make sure that there are no cracks and large dents on the surface. Otherwise, all defects of the lower layer may appear on quartz vinyl over time.
5.Installation of shelves and small contrasting details. A simple solution for those who have absolutely no time to do even minimal repairs. All that is required of you is to install two or three shelves, and then place green plants, flowers or accessories on them. So you divert attention from the old interior and hide the defects on the tiles. You can also diversify a monotonous boring atmosphere with the help of contrasting details.
It is enough to highlight the corners, a niche, a mirror, a partition with a black frame or bright paint. Replace the chrome faucet with a colored or white screen under the bathtub with a black one, etc.
6.Bringing accessories and textiles. You do not like the floor tiles in the bathroom? No problem! You can close it with an ordinary carpet. It will not only hide the flaws (if any), but will also bring new colors and textures to the interior. After all, carpets are different: plain, Persian, with geometric or floral patterns. At the same time, I recommend paying attention to small carpets that are easy to take out to dry.
A new lamp, a mirror, a picture, a houseplant or a bouquet of dried flowers, as well as soap dishes, original hooks or colored towels in the same style will also freshen up your bathroom. You just need to make a complete composition out of them - a whole image!
