After repairing the water riser, heated towel rails stop heating in half of the house
During the repair of the apartment, the riser of hot and cold water supply was changed. Instead of old metal pipes, which practically rotted, they put new polypropylene ones. It seems that they did better - they increased the reliability of the system. However, after such an intervention, the heated towel rails at the neighbors began to heat much worse.
It seems to me that this is not a problem of a specific apartment. Similar situations are found everywhere. Therefore, we will figure out exactly where they messed up.
What was the problem
After all, how it happens with us: every man at home is his own master. Hiring professionals to repair is expensive. Therefore, whenever possible, he does everything with his own hands. Masters are hired only for some complex or especially responsible work. That is what happened in this case as well.
First, they invited a familiar plumber to consult. When asked about the water risers, he replied that it would be better to replace them. He stated that a metal pipe with a diameter of 50 mm has now been installed and it is already breathing heavily.
When it came to repairs, we decided to install a polypropylene pipe instead of a regular steel pipe. It must be of better quality. This is what became a fatal mistake.
When buying materials, the seller picked up all the necessary fittings. The master, who was called for installation, silently installed everything, took the money and left. Everyone did their own job.
No one said that the inner diameter of the fiftieth polypropylene pipe is one and a half times smaller than the inner diameter of the fiftieth metal pipe. It turned out the narrowing of the section. Because of this, heated towel rails at the neighbors began to warm up worse.
How it should have been done
When we change a pipe section, it is important to maintain its internal section (conditional passage). Since, according to different standards, pipes made of different materials may have different sizes, diameter correspondence tables are used.
Steel pipes are measured by the inner diameter, and polypropylene pipes by the outer diameter. Accordingly, instead of a metal riser 50 mm (2”), it was necessary to install polypropylene PN 75.
I understand that it can be difficult to deal with the conversion of sizes from millimeters to inches and the difference in designations according to different standards. To make things easier for you, in an article on the website I explained in detail and as simply as possible how to find matching pipe diameters. Use on health.
