Why ovaries of zucchini rot, and how to avoid it.
Rotting ovaries of zucchini is a fairly common problem that gardeners have to deal with. Very often, the source of infection is directly the flower itself.
Harmful bacteria enter the ovary through the flower attachment. This happens because in wet weather, a dying flower is often filled with moisture, which, under the influence of certain conditions, gradually turns into a black liquid.
In dry weather, this phenomenon is not observed, because at night the flower simply fades and falls off. As a result, no infection occurs.
In order to prevent the appearance of rot, it is necessary to get rid of flowers mechanically. It is necessary to observe the appearance of the flower: if it twisted the petals with a screw and no longer blooms, then it no longer brings any benefit to the vegetable crop.
Based on this, we can conclude that it is time to remove the flower.
To remove it, it is absolutely not necessary to use some kind of garden equipment.
It is enough to gently break off the flower at the very base with your fingers. Scissors are not recommended.
A small trace should remain at the junction of the flower and the ovary - a gray spot.
Ideally, this area should be as dry as possible. If moisture is still present, it must be removed immediately. So, you can dry the area with a paper towel.
There is an important point here: you just need to get wet, but in no case do not rub, making an effort. You can also use wood ash for this purpose.
Do not worry if, in case of negligence, the flower broke off with part of the ovary. As practice shows, from such an ovary in the future, a very good vegetable will also turn out.
