Recently, I needed to lead a path in the country from the gate to the house. I started the preparatory work, dug a trench, and then a neighbor approached me with the question “How will you compact?” Well, as usual. I'll throw stones. No, he says, usually it won't help here. It is necessary to make sure that the elephant does not push through. And to have enough of such work for many years. Believe the former foreman and you will be convinced that this is so.

And he gave me some good advice. Now I hasten to share them with you.

preparing the ground

First of all, it is necessary to remove a loose layer of soil. In principle, I did it anyway - I just dug the trench that I needed for the track.

Use rubble

Small pebbles are taken at the rate of 3 square meters. m. 1 full bucket. Thickness - 1-2 fractions. Spread the gravel evenly over the surface. In this case, the soil should look through the stones.

We tamp the rubble into the ground with any available tool. This is the main secret. You need to take something solid - a sledgehammer, a plate, a board. And with blows we drive pebbles into the ground. Great if you have a car. You can, of course, run over the surface several times, but then you have to call all the neighbors, and do it for a long time.

It would seem that this is so? Well rubble and rubble, will hold the cement. You can add more for strength. But it is precisely such a base, with a point compaction into the ground, that compresses the soil under it and makes it very dense. Simply by pouring a larger amount of stone, such strength cannot be achieved. Professionals even have a special name for such an action - soil cleaving. It is this surface that can withstand the heaviest loads.

Saving time and cement

Well, then everything is simple. This foundation saved me a lot of time and the cement itself. And I walked the rammer twice. First, he poured stones, drove them into the ground, then sketched them again and walked over them again.

The second layer can be made with smaller gravel. And if you water (wet) the surface a little between actions, then your path will be created for centuries. Because a reliable and durable foundation will be laid, which will cope even if a herd of elephants runs on the surface. You will not see any deformation in the near future.

After that, I filled my path with sand and cemented it. The perfect durable track is ready!
