The new lithium-ion batteries for vehicles recharged within 10 minutes and kept 2500 charge-discharge cycles
Batteries. Wherever you look, the terms of some batteries, and the world need more batteries, more intensive, long-lasting and fast when charging. And researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, which is located in Philadelphia, found a solution how to charge the battery as quickly as possible.
The essence of the problem
Home "Achilles heel" of all electric vehicles - it is their battery and its charging speed, and before a scientific team was tasked to create a battery that is recharged in 10 minutes and provide a power reserve of at least 300 km. And, as it is known, the existing lithium-ion battery charging current is limited in order to avoid such an effect as the lithiation (Formation within the element "tracks" of pure lithium metal, which are the main cause of failure of elements power).
But the scientists found the following solution:
Method was used asymmetrical temperature modulation (ATM), which allows the battery to charge for only 10 minutes at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius.
Thus strict control of time and temperature allow to minimize material degradation processes, and thereby retains the element capacitance in 91.7% after 2500 charge-discharge cycles.
Just found out a curious effect. It turns out it is not necessary to use forced cooling batteries, natural convection is sufficient.
What is the completion of
Engineers have been proposed to modify an existing model by adding a special warm- nickel plate, which just and warms battery in charging period (10 minutes) to a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius.
As shown by the experiments, a full warm-up batteries will significantly reduce the effect of degradation (formation of lithium tracks). And the battery price increase amounted to only some 0.46%.
The results of their experiments research group published in a scientific journal in this article.
Suppose that initially the development of this "sharpened" under electric cars, but that does not mean that just a couple of years we will be able not to see, for example, phones with charging function for 10 seconds.
