Slowly but surely, or as we in terms of economy of a steep slope terrace made

When my husband and I saw a wooden hut, lost in the dense greenery, then immediately realized - here it is, a haven for those tired of the bustle of the capital.

The house was built at the foot of the slope. Previous owners a lot of time on the ground did not spend so kind Slope was pristine. Wild blackberries, ferns, thorny bushes, reeds, pine trees - all of it covered 10 acres.

planning stages.

The first time we all this green-minded. But when the next summer drought occurred in our district broke out several fires, we have decided to postpone all the current affairs and seriously deal with the site. we had a simple plan:

1. Get rid of the ground vegetation

2. Remove the roots.

3. Cut the grass with pleasure.

Tops and roots.

Our finances are limited, so it was assumed that we will do everything ourselves. We do not take into account one thing - any job on a steep incline energy consumption and performance of it - is extremely low.

We pounded, sawed, cut, mowed and pulled two and a half months. As a result, we cut all the bushes and thorns. But with the situation was more complicated roots. The roots of bushes in the sizes do not differ from the roots of certain trees. Trying to remove the stumps by a hatchet - a very long way. In the end, we were tired and postponed the completion of the plan for the next year.

Heavy artillery terrace or under construction.

When spring came clear understanding - to the slope you need to do something. Cutting the grass at an angle of 40 degrees between the stumps sticking out everywhere quickly tired and we decided it was time to make the slope of the terrace. Funds for a landscape designer and surveyor services we did not. So I sketched out on a piece of paper something like the sketch, and the driver of a small and nimble excavator looked and nodded - do.

It was the right investment. In one day, the excavator has changed beyond recognition site relief. The roots were removed. Several tons of land with large stones moved from the foot of the hill to the top. Then the driver leveled the site and jewelry laid remaining boulders along the descent. At work, none of the trees was not affected.

Strengthen the terrace.

After several serious rains come to understand that a terrace should be strengthened, and the sooner the better. Of all the options, we settled on a dry masonry of limestone. Everything else was beyond our budget. From the previous owners got us a legacy of unfinished alpine slide, which we dismantled, got some material.

How to style your stones. Tips from the experienced.

The wall had to tinker. Familiar mason shared secrets and helped in the initial phase:

- Every stone must be considered, wondering how he will approach what is already laid out.

- First fit the lower part. It should be wider, so that the upward tapered wall and rests on the bottom of the slope.

- The stones must not wobble.

- The center of gravity of the stone should be directed into the masonry.

For advice I can add the experienced - creative work, something resembling Lego. Only much harder. Therefore, it takes a long time. It took us a few weeks.

The result of labor.

But the wall, we have not finished. Stones are not enough. Nothing. We will continue this year. The result we are still satisfied. From the terrace offers a lovely view of the height. There we plan to build an arbor and a bench, to plant trees, sow grass, make a track. But this is very far-reaching plans.
