Hedgerow Derain

A hedge of white derene can decorate the site all year round - for this she is appreciated. User FORUMHOUSE Dmitry Rebrov set a fence 60 meters long along his section and thought about planting a hedge along it. But all that he saw from others, he did not like at all. And quite by accident, in the early spring, he saw this.

Dmitry Rebrov:
- It bribed me that such a hedge looks decorative in the winter, due to the red color of the branches. It was evident that the branches pressed to the ground gave roots and new shoots. That is, this thing should be sufficiently tenacious and unpretentious.

A search on the Internet suggested: the plant is called derain. In nurseries, it was sold at 300-400 rubles per bush. Web version of instagram for desktop and computer https://gramhum.com Browse Instagram

Dmitry Rebrov:
- Taking a calculator, multiplying the length of the fence by the step of landing and consulting with my toad, I realized that I could manage without a hedge so far. However, it turned out differently.

How to plant hedge for hedges

The plant was found in Moscow, in the wasteland, by which Dmitry walks to work. He dug 55 bushes, drove to the cottage and planted at a distance of 1.2 meters from the fence in increments of a meter. All bushes took root. In order to make a dense fence that would hide the fence, Dmitry was advised to plant them “on a stump” at FORUMHOUSE.

Hedgerow: white derain matches perfectly with metal and stone.

“Cut to stump” is a horticultural term that means pruning all stems to 15 centimeters from the soil level. The truth remains a small stump. Such pruning is done either in autumn or early spring, before the sap flow begins, so as not to get “bushes in own juice”. Only those bushes that are already well rooted are pruned. In the first year of life, plants can not be planted on a stump. There is a simple rule: planted in the spring - swift next spring. Planted in summer or autumn - we miss one spring.

Helga:
- Cut, leaving no more than 20cm. If they were planted in spring or summer, then next spring they have taken root. The sooner you start to do low pruning, the more fluffy the bush turns out. High pruning leaves the legs of the plant bare.

How to form bushes

Bushes of this culture are formed depending on the purpose. If you want a fluffy plant from the ground itself, then you have to plant it on a stump more than once. But this can only be seen by the result. After trimming, some bushes can give a lush bouquet of shoots, and others - only two or three.

The love of hedges from white derene is explained, first of all, by the cosmic beauty of the plant. In summer, it pleases the eye with unusual foliage, especially since in some species and varieties it is bordered with white, yellow or cream edging.

Both white-motley and golden-motley varieties become even more beautiful in the fall. On some young bushes, leaves from spring may be a strange reddish hue. This should not worry: when the plant grows older and helps, redness will remain only on the stems.

A hedge of white Siberian deren blooms twice during the summer. The bush blooms modestly, but then bright white berries appear in place of rather nondescript flowers. By the way, the culture begins to bear fruit at the age of two to three years.

Strawberry Month:
- Blooms twice a season, the first time in spring, then beautiful berries appear, they crumble and derain blooms again. The second wave of berries falls in the fall and against the backdrop of crimson foliage looks great.

In winter, the bright branches of the bush stand out beautifully on white snow. At this time, he is usually the most beautiful thing in the garden. Winter shades of the branches depend on the variety: in Midwinter Fire and Winter Flame derren they are bright orange, in white Siberia and offspring Kelsi they are red-coral; the offspring Flaviramea has olive. Over the years, the shoots grow dull, so pruning helps to maintain the postcard brightness of the plant.

The bush does not require additional care, does not get sick, it is winter- and drought-resistant and unpretentious. Another advantage of all degrains is that they are undemanding to the soil, are not afraid of nearby groundwater and grow remarkably in the shade without changing the color of the leaves.

How to cut

Derain is not the cheapest plant, but this minus is easily blocked by the fact that it is easily cuttings. Cuttings are recommended to cut not too thick branches, the best is a two-year growth. If you cut the cuttings in late February, the roots will already appear in April. The average survival rate of such cuttings is 50-70%. You can save this way: buy one seedling in the nursery, and then propagate it with cuttings. By the way, cuttings can be cut in forest belts. Look in the vicinity of your summer cottage "village" - they are often made from species dehren. Just in the summer, in the greenery, they are not visible, but in early spring you can see bright red shoots.

User FORUMHOUSE SL 09 in early March, in the courtyard of the city house, he picked up a couple of broken branches of derain and put them in the water. A week later, the branches blossomed leaves, and after another one and a half - they started the roots. This is the first for SL 09 a spontaneous attempt to root ornamental plants was successful, the cuttings calmly survived to land in the ground, sitting in tetrapacks.

A living fence from this plant is recommended to be planted in one row or in a checkerboard pattern.

In order for the “derren fence” to look neat, it is cut 1-2 times per season. This culture is growing rapidly, in three years it can freely rise above two meters. Thus, the height of the hedge can be controlled to the desired using cropping. If you plant derain by meter seedlings and rather densely (step 50-70 centimeters), then with a constant haircut after five years you will have a solid two-meter hedge.

In the hedge, the plant can be combined with other unpretentious plants, here is a good combination: Degrandissantissimo and panicle hydrangea.

Diseases and Pests

Usually pests bypass this shrub. The exception is black aphid. She just loves young derain.

Kishiko:
- Black midges settled on the bushes, similar to aphids, only with wings. All the leaves were stuck on the reverse side, everything was black from them. Around the bushes, life was filled with a fountain - wasps, flies and sparrows (they do not even pay attention to people) and everything stirs from them. It started after blooming, maybe it caused trouble?

The invasion of winged black aphids can be a one-time, and can be repeated every year. It does not bear any damage to plants. In case of severe damage, it is recommended to treat the bush with a systemic insecticide. Its active substance penetrates the vascular system of the plant, where it lasts up to three weeks.
