Who and what were built "home-hives"
Modern high-rise building is often compared with anthills or hives. I wanted to know whether there really "at home - hives."
In architecture, the term "Beehive" is called adobe building with a conical top. Building materials are - mud, cow dung, stones, logs. They are spread in a circle, making the upper ranks of the more narrow. The result is a dome backplate with a hole in the middle. The roof acts as a kind of air conditioner. Hot air is accumulated near the ceiling and is blown out through the hole.
The thick walls (4-5m) with no windows protect from the heat, and rounded configuration of the structure is highly resistant to strong winds. In addition, the domed roof is easy to build without the use of wood. "House-hives" became widespread in Central Africa, the Caucasus, in the Mediterranean countries. However, the construction only in appearance resembles a small house for bees.
Huge ring-shaped house built by representatives of the Hakka people in the Chinese provinces of Fujian and Guangdong. In the 12th century. their ancestors moved to new locations and were forced to build shelters for protection from enemies.
They came up to build homes, castles called "Tulou". Mixture of pebbles, sand, clay, lime laying a solid foundation. On the circumference (diameter 50 to 90 m) of the rammed earth walls laid. Below their thickness is 2-3 m, and the top narrowed to 1 m.
Around the inside perimeter made log frame, which served as the basis for individual rooms:
· 1st floor - cribs;
· 2nd floor - storage for food;
· 3-5 floor - living rooms.
The top of the house was covered with tiles. Blocked the only entrance gate.
In Tulou could accommodate 100 to 800 people. Here is a very real hives!
But I think that living in such a closed system is psychologically very difficult.
