End cutting board with simple tools
About three years ago, I learned of the end cutting boards. The theme seemed to me interesting and decided to try to make a board in his studio.
At first it was a beech board, after tried pine and larch and... quite successfully. (These boards are already several years I)
As did the end of the board from oak and ash. A total of approximately ten boards were made.
Such boards are usually made using a machine, but as I have found in practice, it can be done with hand tools.
While doing these boards, I had some scheme of their production and I decided to share it.
For example, I took the production end of the board from scraps of balusters.
Here, the initial stage is a bit different. Usually made first bars, which are glued together in the shield, the shield and then sawn transversely into bars of blocks.
That is, in this case, change the order of actions and I will be glued cubes in rows.

After bonding, the resulting bars, I first trimmed by a plane, and then fit together.
Pencil markings showing the irregularities on the bar. That is, when aligned to the sandpaper, pencil lines are where there is the fovea.
When adjusted the bars, I stack them in the same sequence as the customized and doing the layout, not to be confused with the gluing.
Further, the board is glued together. For gluing use PVA carpenter class water resistance D3. (Particularly PVA mark "Kleiberit")
Immediately will outline his views on the use of PVA for articles in contact with food.
As far as I figured out only TiteBond firm wrote on its products, which is permitted for use in food contact products. Other companies that are not attended to.
On the other hand PVA - polyvinyl acetate in water emulsion, a polyvinyl acetate - colorless transparent solid non-toxic substance. Think for yourself.
Glued board and then I level it a plane on your device, which makes the surface gauge of the planer.

To avoid chipping at the end of the board, I do not I bring plane to the edge of a few centimeters, and this part of the plane down later, just turning the board.

The next step is being processed on the Fraser. Here are made handles and driven around the edge.
And at the end of the board grind grinder (sandpaper with grain 180r) and overlaid with mineral oil.
As the mineral oil can be used for the board of vaseline oil chemists.
