How to insulate the front door?
Sooner or later, many owners of country houses are faced with the fact that cold air is streaming from under the door, or, even worse, the door freezes from the outside. In this case, all doors suffer: fistulas are characteristic of wooden doors, and frosting is typical for metal ones.
I offer two of the most effective ways to insulate doors. The first is in front of you, and the second I described in another article "Door upholstery with dermantin". Choose the one that you like.
So, the first thing you need is a sheet hardboard or very thin plywood. Who does not know, hardboard is pressed sawdust, the sheet looks like this:
Next, we measure and cut off part of the sheet for the inner size of the door frame, and not the door itself. This is required to close the cracks (the door may not be rectangular at all!).
Important: Correct outer (first) door opens outward.
Then on the sheet we reproduce the cutouts for through elements
(peephole, locks, chains), pointwise glue the insulation to the sheet: batting or synthetic winterizer.Important: it is necessary to ensure that this glue does not dissolve the insulation. You can also use a furniture stapler.
Then we take leatherette(vinyl leather, eco leather, natural leather, etc.) and tighten the resulting cake. We fix decorative elements according to the desired pattern. If the finished product needs to be fixed on the surface of a wooden door, then decorative carnations are the very thing. If the door is metal, then we glue the leatherette onto elastic glue (for example, a universal tight-bond).
We mount the lock and peephole. If the side to be sheathed opens inward, it is necessary to prevent strong friction of the sheathing on the box and the hardboard sheet should be made 2-3 mm less so that the thickness of the sheathing at the fold fills this space.
