How to insulate the walls of a bath?
In this article, we will consider how to insulate the walls of a bath from the inside. This method is equally suitable for warming saunas and steam rooms.
Thermal insulation of the steam room walls.
When insulating the walls of a sauna, there are two important tasks to accomplish. The first is to attach vertical bars to the walls. They will provide a ventilation gap to ventilate the entire supporting structure. At the same time, from below and above, at the floor and ceiling, leave a small indent - it will ensure the exchange of air between adjacent cells.
Can a sauna and bath membrane be used?
As a vapor barrier layer, I would not recommend using well-known synthetic films and membranes, such as isospan.
Instead, it is much smarter to buy aluminum foil or aluminum sheets up to 0.2 mm thick. The main difficulty is to create a sealed "capsule" and glue all joints with metallized tape. The second trick is to fold the edges of the vapor barrier onto the ceiling by 15-20 cm.
How to insulate the bath?
Among all heaters for baths and saunas, I would prefer PIR plates or stone wool (less preferable). Both types of insulation withstand fire safety requirements, are not toxic and are not subject to deterioration under the influence of temperature.
PIR slabs or cotton wool are fixed between the bars. Advice - make a step of the slats to the size of the insulation sheet.
After laying the insulation, a horizontal crate is attached to the bars. It is needed to secure the lining and gives you an additional ventilation gap under the skin.
