Do they give a mortgage for a Stalin-era apartment?
The housing issue today worries many Russians, and traditionally, a considerable number of new settlers want to live in the houses of the Stalinist period of construction (1945-1953).
Such houses are deservedly valued for their reliability, thoughtfulness, high ceilings and a large apartment area (in comparison with Khrushchevs).
But since now it is almost impossible to buy a home without a mortgage, many are interested in "is it possible to get a mortgage for the purchase of stalinka?".
We answer: it is possible, but with several conditions.
Your chances of getting mortgage approval for the purchase of Stalinka are much higher under these conditions:
- the previous tenants replaced the floors in their apartment from wooden to metal, and (important!) you can document it.
- the house is included in the major overhaul program, and the apartment will soon be repaired: so its price will skyrocket, which means that in extreme cases you can sell your home and pay off your debts;
- your total family income is at least RUB 80,000 per month.
With lower incomes, it is better to apply for a good apartment and not try. Most likely, you will have to be content with Khrushchev, or a new building in the suburbs.
