How to sew up the pediment at home?
I call the pediment the most underestimated part of the house: after all, everyone is trying to make a capital foundation, reliable communications, pay attention to the walls and roof, but they often forget about the pediment: they sheathe what they have to, or they forget how it should insulate.
Meanwhile, the pediment has very important functions.
- protection from precipitation and freezing;
- heavy roof support;
- protection against lateral wind gusts;
How to sew a pediment at home: durable ways
In a wooden house, these materials are suitable for sheathing gables:
- moisture resistant OSB varieties with a thickness of at least 6 mm.
- imitation of a bar;
- any grooved board;
- edged board;
The first four materials have a common feature - they must be applied only jointly with wind and moisture protective films or membranes. Otherwise, the pediment will not act as a barrier against precipitation, wind and cold.
To seal the seams between OSB sheets or edged boards, you can use liquid nails (expensive), or a mixture of PVA glue and sawdust (finally, coat with waterproof varnish).
Also, a profiled sheet or sheet metal is well suited for cladding, provided that it is fastened to a massive beam using roofing screws.
It makes sense to cover wood types of cladding from the outside with vinyl or metal siding. Such a pediment will definitely not be afraid of moisture ingress and oblique sprinkling.
What can not be used for covering gables?
- non-moisture resistant plywood;
- lining (will lead);
-
for the final coating - roofing material.
