Wooden furniture creaks. 3 proven ways to get rid of crickets
You go to bed in the evening - a creak.
You turn on the other side - a creak.
A voice nearby: “When will you go to bed? Stop creaking. Don't even bother. And without that, the neighbors hear every gesture. "
What irritates you more: the creak of the bed, the ever-dripping tap, or maybe something else? The good news is that these problems are easy to solve. I know three tried and tested ways to get rid of crickets in wood furniture. And the reason for their appearance is always the same.
The other day the whole family went to the village. The crib, which is there, began to creak unbearably. I applied all three repair methods on it. By the way, they are suitable for eliminating the squeak of any wooden furniture (and not only).
We check the reliability of the fastening
As I said above, there is only one reason for the appearance of a squeak: friction of parts or their parts against each other. In our case, the sidewall bolts are loosened. When the baby jumps in the crib, it loosens and squeaks.
I tightened all the bolts. It became noticeably quieter, but the problem remained. Moved to the next method.
We update permanent connections
Of course, not all of the crib parts were bolted. The vertical posts of the "lattice", for example, are firmly glued into the crossbeams.
The bolts were loosened first. And due to the fact that they were not pulled up in time, everything else began to loosen. There is another reason for the creak. I had to disassemble the crib in detail and glue the one-piece connections.
If the parts are too loose, glue alone may not be enough. It will take something to seal the joint. I put cotton fabric in the loosened joint or add fine sawdust to the glue. The carpenter, of course, will throw stones at me for this method. But it works. You can do better - do it.
When both methods fail
After gluing the joints, it became almost perfect. The trouble is that the fastening of one rack to the crossbeams turned out to be completely broken (two generations of children grew up in this crib in Soviet times).
If you cannot get rid of the backlash, you need to make sure that in this place the parts do not rub against each other. Felt was at hand. Cut out two linings (under the top and bottom crossbars). Tightened the bolts. Squeaks no longer appeared.
