Cracks in brick and concrete. Why do many still fail to get rid of them and how to do it all the same
What do we do when a crack appears in the wall? Many are beginning to look for a recipe for a magic solution that can reliably seal it. I hasten to upset you, there is no such recipe. Although for especially persistent craftsmen, at the end of the article I will tell you about a method that allows you to cope with any crack.
I'll start from afar. We are used to the fact that doctors prescribe treatment symptomatically. There was a cough, we drink an expectorant. The temperature has risen, we drink antipyretic. By analogy, many begin to struggle with cracks. The seam is open - you need to cover it up. Friends, this will not work.
See the photo above? This crack under the window is 10 years old. Last year, the building was insulated and plastered. But the crack was ignored. She even showed herself on the renovated facade.
And here we see that the crack is smeared with mortar every year, but it appears again. Sound familiar?
Before repairing cracks, you need to understand the reasons for their appearance. This can be soil heaving, thermal expansion, insufficient reinforcement, etc.
If the root cause is eliminated, it is enough to embroider the seam and cover it with cement mortar (preferably with the addition of PVA): fine-grained sand, cement, water with the addition of PVA. Such a composition will last for many years.
However, heaving soil at the base of the foundation often becomes the cause of cracks. Correcting such a miscalculation costs a pretty penny. And if this is not done, the crack will appear every year. There is a simple solution.
When it comes to a crack in the foundation, fill it with a bituminous sealant. If the wall is cracking, we foamed the seam, and from the outside we seal it with elastic polymer mastic. Seasonal deformations remain, but the mastic compensates for them.
Yes, I almost forgot, a universal way to get rid of cracks:
Now it has become fashionable to hide all the jambs behind the ventilation facade. If in the first case a crack appeared on the plaster, then here it has no chance.
I hope you understand that in the last example I am criticizing builders. Defects must be eliminated, not hidden. Otherwise, then we will not understand where it is blowing from, why the walls freeze and mold appears.
Success to everyone!
