How to choose a skirting board?
In this article, I will share a selection of helpful tips to help you choose the right skirting board. I tried to break the article into simple and short paragraphs, if you did not have enough information - please write a comment, we will discuss.
So let's go!
First rule - you should always choose a plinth in the same color as the interior doors. This is done so that the plinth serves as a "continuation" of the door trims. It is impossible to orientate yourself when choosing a plinth on the floor, because the floor, as a rule, is chosen "in contrast" to the door: to a dark door - a light floor, or vice versa.
Second rule - the plinth (and platbands) should be bright against the background of the floor in order to visually separate the boundary between the floor and the walls.
Third nuance - the ideal solution is to buy skirting boards in the same store where you bought the doors. So you will definitely be sure that you will get "color-in-color" and the materials will be of the same texture.
Fourth nuance - the material of the platbands and the material of the plinth must be the same. For example, if you choose a cheap plastic plinth cable for expensive wooden platbands, even if it gets color-in-color, it will look disgusting.
The skirting board should not be thicker than the casing. Otherwise, it will protrude beyond the casing, and during cleaning, a rag will cling to its sharp edge.
Never use platbands as plinths.
Firstly, their edges are rounded, which means that the platband does not fit perfectly to the floor (dirt will accumulate there), secondly, the platband cannot be attached to the wall with secret nails, and such a design will look cheap.
