The plumber revealed 3 main causes of sewer blockages. Here's how to avoid them
When do we start thinking about the causes of blockages? Unfortunately, only when the sewage system made its last "gurgle", and the water in it froze at the same level. Alas, even the sensational "mole" does not always save in such situations.
After one of the blockages, I had a long conversation with a plumber. He asked about the most frequent problems the master faces and how to prevent them. I'm telling you.
Hair loss
When you wash your hair, your hair gets into the drain. This is a natural process and there is no getting away from it. Someone has more hair loss, some less. This is already a matter of physiology.
Usually only hair that is stuffed into the sewer drain. But they are not the problem. What we have in sight is easy to remove. Pipes clog hair that went further down the drain. They cling to every unevenness and roughness in the pipes. Retain fat, food waste and other debris on themselves. This is how a blockage occurs.
What to do about it
It is enough to install a fine mesh on the drain while washing your hair (or when draining water from the bath). Hair after washing lingers on it.
Fatty food
In a frying pan after frying cutlets, in a tin can from sprats, etc. fat remains. Many housewives pour it directly into the sink. In its pure form, fat quickly settles on the walls of the sewer pipes. Their cross section decreases over time and at some point - long live the blockage.
What to do about it
It is enough to blot the dishes with a paper napkin or old rags and then throw them into the trash can. The material quickly absorbs fat and does not end up in the drain.
Total savings
More and more people buy A ++ class washing machines and dishwashers. Short (economical) wash cycles are started during operation. It turns out that the same amount of washing powder is consumed, and several times less water.
It is not possible to completely wash off the detergents with a small amount of water. Over time, a dense layer of household chemicals settles on the walls of the sewer pipes. When a blockage appears, it is difficult to break it even with a cable.
What to do about it
Alternate fast (short) wash cycles with long ones. Drain from a dishwasher or washing machine into the sewer between the riser and the bathroom. In this case, the pipes are better washed with running water.
