Has my house been lopsided after two years? I check this with a simple method and am surprised at the results.
A well-made foundation of the house is a guarantee of its long existence. And despite the fact that I did everything myself, and was picky, doubts remain ...
Friends, a big hello to everyone. There is a saying: "if you want to do well, do it yourself." And for me as a self-builder, this is probably the main motto. But when you do all the work for the first time, you always doubt the correctness of your choice.
And these doubts have haunted me from the very beginning.
The pillow of my foundation is 40-50 cm of sand. And I tamped this whole layer by hand. Layer by layer and very slowly, but absolutely alone.
And surely this method cannot be compared with compaction with a vibrating plate, but this is still the foundation of the house. And uneven shrinkage that may follow - it's not very good.
The only thing that calmed me down was that I was in no hurry with this case.
✔ And perhaps a month of manual ramming, in terms of quality, will be close to Several days of work with a vibrating plate.
✔ And if there is shrinkage (and it will), it will be more or less uniform. Since the tamping technique is the same over the entire base area.
It's time for a test.
Although the period is of course still small (the box costs only two years), I wanted to look at some changes.
✅ Using a normal laser level, I decided to check the masonry in several places.
Of course, I did not expect very strong drops, but I wanted to see how I put the blocks in general (and I did it too carefully, every row). But if there could be serious problems, they would appear (it seems to me).
And here are the results:

I checked all the corners for "verticality" and the "horizon" of the masonry. And to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised by this result.
- There is a little run-up along the general vertical (up to 5 mm), but during laying, I did not really follow it. Only separately for each block.
- And the horizon, wherever I looked, well, just ideally. Maybe a millimeter difference can be found, and even then with difficulty.
When I erected the walls, I ideally brought out only the first row (as required), and already pushed further from it. But in the end, I did not conduct such a check.
This is how it turns out with a bubble level and a thread, you can get a good result, even without experience.
✅ Friends write your opinion in the comments: Is it possible to judge by such results that there is no distortion of the house, and that the shrinkage is uniform?
Or is it too early??? Your opinion is very interesting.
