Is the tap leaking? I tell you how to make it eternal: repair of crane axle box with what is at hand
Hello, friends.
If it starts to undermine the tap, do not go to the headstock - the PTFE washer on the stem is worn out. They are not on sale separately. Therefore, the axle boxes had to be replaced every six months before. When I learned to fix washers, over time I ran into other problems. They are all solved in a matter of minutes. But axle boxes now last longer than cranes. Let's talk about everything in order.
We disassemble the crane box in 3 seconds
If someone does not know how the axle box is arranged, I tell you how to disassemble it:
- Remove (or unscrew) the stopper from the stem.
- We take out the silicone (or rubber) plug from the end of the axle box.
- We squeeze the stem out of the body with all the insides.
Water leaks down the stem
The stem seals have become unusable.
In theory, we buy new rings in the store and change them. Before installing, grease the stem with silicone grease, otherwise the rubber can bite and spoil. But going to the store is not our method =)
In practice, I do this. I take off the old rings. I wind nylon thread into the grooves (if I have a very thin fum tape at hand, I wind it). I put the rings back. I smear it with butter (not sunflower!) And send the stock to the body.
Water leaks from the crane-axle box
If you twisted and unscrewed the axle box several times, most likely the rubber band under it died. What are we doing? Of course, we go to the store for a new one.
Great, my wife and I agreed to go to the store. Now we throw out the old rubber ring and wind the fum tape on the thread so that a roller is formed at the seal point. Done. Can be twisted.
Water leaks from the tap
If the water barely drips in, you can temporarily solve the problem like this:
- disassemble the crane box
- on the ceramic disk, which is adjacent to the stem, we glue several layers of blue electrical tape (did you really think that some kind of repair would do without it darling?)
- collect
- ready
If the water is already running in a trickle, it's time to change the PTFE washer. The only pity is that it is not for sale anywhere. Ceramic discs that never break are on sale, and a washer, which is unusable for everyone, is not for sale. Everything for people.
We change the native washer to a copper one. She, without exaggeration, will be eternal. There are several options here:
- We buy a copper washer for YaMZ engine injectors (MAZ, KamAZ, Ural vehicles) in a freight spare parts store. Becomes like a glove.
- We order washers of suitable sizes in China. I do not give links. You will still do it in the following way.
- We make a washer with our own hands from a piece of copper wire.
We take a piece of copper wire with a cross section of 1.5 square meters. mm. We make a couple of turns around the stem. We cut with side cutters so that there is a ring. Slightly flatten it with pliers. It turns out the washer of the desired thickness (about 1 mm). Especially talented guys can solder this split ring. But this is not necessary.
We collect the crane-axle box. Install. We use it until the crane itself breaks down. The only thing that can happen is that the rings on the stock will wear out a little. But I have already told you what to do with them.
