Zucchini without pollination? Really?
I was caught advertising that Iskander F1 marrow is parthenocarpic. That is, it forms a fruit without pollination (not to be confused with self-pollination, like in tomatoes, for example). "ABOUT! Now I will have early zucchini, I will plant one bush in the greenhouse! " - I thought.
It turned out that not everything is so optimistic, because zucchini is not a cucumber, although it is a close relative.
Just in case, I'll write what you probably know. The zucchini on each bush has flowers "girls" and "boys", both on the same bush. Pollination occurs with the help of insects and wind.
Another thing I learned not so long ago, namely that zucchini can be manually pollinated, and it's not difficult at all. Watched about this video and felt so savvy! I decided to plant the Iskander F1 zucchini in a greenhouse.
- After all, it is parthenocarpic (as it says on the package). So it will give fruits without pollination
- And I also manually pollinate, just in case
How to manually pollinate zucchini
The "boy" has a pistil, it must be plucked as soon as the flower blooms, covered with leaves so that the pollen does not spill out. And powder the stamens with this pistil.
Greenhouse Iskander F1 did not please me for a long time, I began to look for the reason.
How it turned out to be difficult
- The parthenocarpic properties of zucchini are weakened under unfavorable conditions.
- From fruiting and diseases, immunity decreases, so the bush discards the outlined fruits (they rot). Saves energy.
- The lack of some elements also provokes fruit rot
- Zucchini are very sensitive to light and temperature, if they are cold and little light, there will be no fruit.
- It is believed that the formation of parthenocarpic squash is promoted by... stress.
Total, whatever one may say, but you will hardly wait for zucchini without an ovary. You can distinguish them by the absence of bones or the bones will be very soft.
What came out of my experiment
So, the early Iskander F1 settled in a new greenhouse. No wind was expected there. All hope was for a partial parthenocarp and my daily visits to the greenhouse to catch 2 suitable flowers in time.
Pollinated! Liked! I got a couple in this way. And then powdery mildew began to attack my strong healthy bush. And off we go rotting. She cut and threw away the leaves.
What you see in the photo is the last third zucchini from this bush. Pollinated by me. There were no zucchini without ovary... At first it was too good for Iskander, then too bad, and I never got into the greenhouse in the conditions suitable for him.
He felt great in the garden. But again, the bones spoke of successful pollination :) We could not look at his parthenocarp.
Now I plant early zucchini with seedlings.
What are you doing? Did you get zucchini without ovary? Another Cavili F1 is a parthenocarpic hybrid. There are several others, they write about this on the pack.
I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
