On March 24th, these tomatoes are frozen!
I never expected such an end.
Imagine, imagine ...
Such tomatoes:
Frozen in a heated greenhouse.
In the garden, of course, it is always like this: something is unsuccessful, while the other will please.
Recipes on how to avoid such a situation at the end. And my plans for these tomatoes. Yes, there are still plans :)
How it was
Was experiment for growing early tomatoes. It ended on the night of March 24. More precisely, expectations have changed. I was waiting for the fruit, and now I'm waiting for signs of life.
I think the tomatoes are alive. Why not wait? It is likely that the growth points are not frozen. In the afternoon in the greenhouse it was + 17 ° С
Flowers were there in the greenhouse, they could have anything! Admire!
They don't care about frosts, they don't care, they don't care!
Simultaneously with the tomatoes, we moved to the greenhouse and did not complain.
And the tomatoes... Are they definitely from America, not from Africa? :) In the best place under the heater, they hung rags instead of leaves ...
And there were such smart girls, under an IR heater with some losses, but survived several night frosts. For several days it was down to -3 ° C for a short time at night and a good plus during the day, + 3 ° - + 9 ° C. Of course, I remembered a joke about how a gypsy taught a horse not to eat. Almost taught. Yes, on the seventh day she died ...
The fateful weather forecast was as follows:
The frost started at about 8 pm and lasted until 12 noon
And in the afternoon of March 23 it was zero. Tomatoes could not stand such a long frost. IR heater not protected. We put the tomatoes and a bucket of boiling water at the entrance, and a kettle on a brick with candles in oil.
Candles in a jar of oil in a teapot are not an option at all, as it turned out.
As soon as the candles burned out to the oil level, they obviously went out. The result is an island of paraffin with oil puddles. And that's all. Admired a little at the 3 burning candles through the closed door. Then I went to look through the polycarbonate: it is on, not on, or everything is on... They laughed, they say, everything is off, it's good!
Now the experimental tomato company looks like this:
I'm waiting for my stepsons!
It remains to give a list of tips from false hopes
- An infrared heater does not protect against prolonged frost
- You should not rely on a kettle with candles in the fight against frost, it is generally not good for anything. Oh, sorry, it's good for developing a sense of humor :)
- If the tomatoes are frozen, you need to cut off the frozen leaves, take the remains of the tomatoes into the warmth and dream of stepsons. Stepsons are real, if the growth points are not frozen.
Have your tomatoes frozen? What did you do?
I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
