About planting carrots. I didn't think there were such interesting ways
Even if you're not curious about carrots, this subscriber experience is valuable for most cultures. Read on, it's very interesting! There will be a dancing trumpet and a bucket without a bottom :)
First, the background. It was Soviet time, people rented vegetable gardens with plowed furrows. Someone sowed carrots in the furrows and then complained about the harvest. And our subscriber did this.
- Sowed carrots on the ridge. After plowing, the ridge was a loose heap of land, 30 centimeters high. "You stick your hand into the ground, and it is just hot and saturated with moisture."
- I slapped the ridge with a board a little to get a flat surface.
- And he outlined the line with a tool that has now become known as the Fokin plane cutter. And he invented it for himself.
- I sowed carrots on compacted wet soil before rain. In one or two lines.
- After sowing, I sprinkled the line with the sowing soil a little and pressed it again with a board. If there was no rain, he watered carefully so that a crust did not form, but after the first shoots and the appearance of the first leaf, he forgot about watering before harvesting.
- After the rain, he carefully loosened and weeded.
By the way, he keeps his carrots right in the garden all winter, he recently dug the last one.
Dry ground from above is good for carrots in that the onion fly does not fly on it, and if it does, the larvae will die in the dry ground. This is what our experienced subscriber says.
If a carrot comes out of the ground (grows up), he spuds it.
Bucket experience
Why it is important not to water, he was convinced by another experiment. He took a bucket without a bottom, put it on a plastic tray and covered it with earth. Sowed carrots on top. Watered from below. It was important that the earth did not dry out.
The ants did not appreciate such a device, and the carrots lived well without their participation. She grew up powerful, even. She rested on the pallet and only here bent a little, they did not allow her to grow even longer!
We draw a conclusion: carrots need deep moisture, not our "zips" and dirt on the surface.
How now our subscriber sows carrots
This is real art! This is how one should love a well-known vegetable! See for yourself!
First, marks a place on the ridge, one or 2 lines, with any tool, for example, a flat cutter.
He replaced the board with a more elegant seal: a pipe with a diameter of 76 mm or 89 mm. Her nose sharpened and bent up, like a ski, so as not to pick up the ground. For convenience, a ski pole on ropes is attached instead of a handle.
He rolls a pipe into a saddle for sowing carrots. And she also presses after sowing.
The soil just crumbles evenly during the second rolling and covers the seeds as needed, in a thin layer. If not, he advises to powder the line with compost or vermicompost.
To lay an even "ski track", he does not drag the pipe, but, as it were, dances to it: he lifted, moved, lowered... This is almost vibration, and not pressure in the generally accepted sense of the word. It turns out a hollow in the ridge for carrots:
The resulting saddle, with a diameter of about 100 mm, is a good water trap, preventing rainwater from spreading.
The compaction is ideal for carrots, only the upper part is compacted, and the ground is loose below.
How do you sow carrots?
I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
