Peculiarities of using "piercing clamps" by the hands of a beginner. My first and hopefully the last experience of working under stress.
As the saying goes, "appetite comes with eating." So I, having tasted all the delights of construction with my own hands, decided to find out what working with electricity is. The first experience is always unforgettable ...
I already started this topic in one of my articles (read here). It's time to talk about all the nuances that I saw as a beginner.
And the "main character" today will be the piercing clamp.
This thing, which of course all electricians know about, and which I learned about only a year ago.
In short, for those who are not in the subject:
This is a special device for connecting wires without stripping the insulation. This results in a reliable connection, which is still insulated and even waterproof.
A special lubricant is responsible for the insulation. I even came across a video on the network where a man splashes in a basin of water, into which such a live connection node is lowered... π.
And most importantly, thanks to these characteristics, these "punctures" allow making a connection under voltage
They are sold in different sizes, for different wire cross-sections.
I needed the clamps for a self-supporting insulated wire with a cross section of 16 mm2
Of course, I used dielectric gloves in my work, but theoretically you can do work without them (what most specialists do). The body and the clamping bolt do not come into contact with the wires in any way.
But even in special gloves, I held on to this good, with caution.
The biggest challenge was the crimping of the wires.
β In order for the special "teeth" to pierce the insulation and firmly enter the core itself, you need to twist the bolt until the head breaks off. And to do it holding the clamp in hand is very difficult, at least I didn't have enough strength.
Therefore, you cannot do without a second key. I took the one that was at hand - gas.
And the process just got a lot easier ...
And the main thing is to insulate the free ends.
Only one insulating tip is included with the clamps, since in theory, these "punctures" are intended to be connected to the middle of the wire (line section), where only the connected wire remains with the free end.
β But in my case, two wires were connected, and I took the second tip from the old "punctures".
Now, just don't laugh and don't throw stones at me ...
These rubber tips, for some reason, did not sit well on the wires and fell off. So I decided to just tape them to the clamps.
Of course it all looks very dumb, but the main thing, in my opinion, is practical. And all the "beauty" will be hidden under the outer lining of the house.
At the end I want to say: take everything and try ... But I won't.
β Still, think a hundred times if you need it... And here is your opinion, write in the comments.
