What is pipeline insulation for / Types of insulation
Carefully selected insulation prevents cooling or heating of the distributed water, and also prevents condensation from forming on the pipes. In addition, insulation reduces pipe noise.
Efficiency requirements today pipe insulation are constantly growing. The emphasis is on maximizing respect for the environment and finding optimal economic profitability.
Insulation is offered for pipes of all sizes and thicknesses. It is made of various materials, of which the most important and most used are polyurethane foam and mineral wool.
Insulation thickness
Insulation thickness is usually calculated based on the greatest savings or in terms of protecting people in the immediate vicinity of the insulated equipment.
The thicker the insulation, the higher the purchase cost. In practice, this means that unnecessary oversize is undesirable. Calculating the correct insulation thickness will be facilitated by a computer program, but more suitable for an expert.
What materials does the market offer
One of the offered materials is lightweight polyethylene foam. It is characterized by a fine structure, significantly reduces heat loss, prevents condensation of water on pipes and mutes sounds. Differs in resistance to chemical attack.
Another insulating material is synthetic rubber with a closed cell structure. It reduces heat loss in the hot water pipes of indoor and outdoor equipment. The properties of the material also predetermine its use in solar distribution, especially for UV stabilization (stabilization of sun protection) and heat resistance up to 160 C.
Circular extruded polyethylene can be used for thermal insulation of heating networks and sanitary equipment of all internal installations. Its temperature range of use is -45 C to 105 C.
Glass wool insulation tubes reduce heat loss in solar and indoor distribution systems and can be used up to 350 C.
It is better to leave the design of the insulation and its appropriate choice to specialists. They professionally produce thermal insulation for heating and plumbing, as well as heat and fire insulation for air conditioners. If necessary, they provide the thermal insulation with a surface treatment (aluminum bonding or coating).
