Why am I no longer addicted to remontant strawberries (strawberries)
I loved and love remontant strawberries (strawberries), but as always happens, you start to see the shortcomings of good crops.
First, I'll show you a photo. Then I will share my thoughts.
Everything is so good and beautiful, what's the problem?
I have grown different types of remontant strawberries. Mustache and mustache. Frost-resistant and not (until the first winter ...). With large and small berries, different taste, color, consistency. What united them is this:
- All remontant varieties are very sensitive to a lack of moisture, water bites. It is advisable to water every day.
- They require more fertilizers, and they must be applied regularly throughout the season. Otherwise, they will either stop bearing fruit, or the berries will be small.
- Repaired varieties are less productive than conventional varieties.
- Fruiting is stretched, you can't harvest much at a time.
- It is necessary to look all season where which bush wanted to hide the red berry. That is, a real individual approach to each plant.
An ordinary strawberry bed yields quickly. You can prepare berries rubbed with sugar in the freezer. Or cook jam, as you like. And it's easier to fertilize.
Before flowering with some fertilizers (mainly nitrogen), during flowering and fruiting with others (intensely potassium, plus all other elements), after the yield of the third (full complex). And that's all. Without any doubts. And you just look at the repair shop, what it lacks. Capricious.
I have found one solution "for lazy people". There are now fertilizers that are laid during planting and operate slowly throughout the season. I also brought them in for growing bushes, made holes close to the roots and covered them there. I had AVA. Liked!
Someone will say that manure should be lying, or compost, and no problems with fertilizers. They did so. Khrushchev liked it... We didn't. The beetles slide onto manure and compost. We have eaten a lot of bushes... It was especially a pity for those that were from seeds, last year they did not even try berries from them... Not everyone knows what khrushches (May beetle larvae) are, not everyone has such problems. For many, indeed, humus is the best fertilizer for any strawberry.
What do you think of remontant strawberries (strawberries)?
