I dug a septic tank - I got 5 m³ of free sand. But this is not a "building material" at all. Where i used it.
For free, of course, vinegar is sweet, but when building a house, it can still come back to haunt. The same sand, the sand of strife, but the good does not disappear ...
This topic has haunted me from the very beginning of my path as a self-builder. When my site was still completely in the thickets, and I was just making my way to it, nature itself brought me great benefits.
The bulk of the sand, which makes up 100 meters of the entrance to my site, was obtained from digging a drainage ditch along it (more about this, read in the article). I can't even imagine how much I would have spent if I had imported the sand separately.
And now it is simply a sin not to use freebies.
Burying your homemade septic tank (how and why I do it,look here), I had to dig about 5 cubic meters of sand to submerge it to the desired depth. And I immediately knew where this good would go.
Entrance to the site.
Since this sand showed itself well on the road, under the pressure of heavy equipment, then here it also belongs.
For this, I prepared in advance by spreading geotextiles.
And then he simply distributed the sand as it was dug up.
And the main thing here is not to fall for the bait.
When you take out wet sand, it seems just perfect:
Large grains of sand, no stones. As a river, alluvial.
✅ And at first I even felt sorry to bury everything under the check-in.
But as it dries, everything changes.
In fact, this is all, for the most part, very fine, dusty sand. And this is immediately visible when, in a strong wind, all this flies around the site.
❗ Such material in construction processes (with the same concrete production) can not use. At least in critical structures.
Yes, and on my arrival, it will be useful, only on the lower layer. From above you will need to cover it with larger sand. Otherwise, it will simply be blown around by the wind 😁.
