Wash or not wash potatoes and carrots for storage
A subscriber shared his experience of storing potatoes and carrots. Throughout the winter, the harvest is perfectly stored in his cellar without loss. One or two things do not count for the entire crop. And they collect 5-6 bags of potatoes, that's enough for them.
Agree, a noteworthy experience. If you share how you are doing with the harvest, it will be great!
So, the subscriber's story.
Mine, and very happy with the result
Once, back in Soviet times, I watched TV. One of the topics was: growing potatoes abroad. Interested in cleaning and storage.
It was said that the potatoes are washed immediately after harvesting. It is about taking care not only of the tubers, but also of ensuring that not a single grain of sand gets into the trash can. To keep everything in the fields.
Since then, and this is almost forty years, we wash the potatoes, dry them, sort out the green ones, cut them. And only then we pour it into small boxes and put it for storage in the cellar. Every year we make sure that this is the right decision. Almost all potatoes remain intact. Rarely miss, and a couple of potatoes will rot.
Photo report
The boxes are stacked on top of each other. Previously, bags for storage were specially sewn (there were no boxes) and stored in bags.
We do the same with carrots. I do not understand why it should be buried in sand or sawdust, dirty with a clay talker, etc. If it keeps well. We just
- my
- dry
- put in a box
- put in the cellar
- and cover with a newspaper.

Here's a forty-year experience. I know that everyone's conditions are different, so storage methods are different. I wonder if you wash potatoes and carrots for storage?
I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
