The slab is cracked to its full thickness. I consider all possible reasons, and think what to do next.
I'm on the lookout for the causes of an extended crack in my foundation. I don't know what it will give, but I want to get to the bottom of the truth.
In one of the articles I wrote about a problem that appeared on my foundation slab.
Detail all written here.
And there was a lot of controversy in the comments about the reason for its appearance.
So I decided to dig deeper.
The largest divergence of the crack is at the entrance to the basement. Part of the formwork has not yet been disassembled after pouring the foundation (although two years have passed). Let's start with this.
We remove all unnecessary and see the whole cake of the plate, and all the jambs.
A piece of reinforcement stuck out during pouring (but this is not a problem, it can be repaired. By the way, I measured the exact thickness of the slab ...
130 mm. The armature, it turns out, runs in its lower part, about 50 mm from the bottom.
But the main thing is the crack itself.
In the very corner, its opening is very clearly visible.
It turns out that the largest opening is at the top, and the crack goes to the entire depth of the slab (although this is only from the edge).
The strangest reasons came to mind.
During the period when I discovered the crack, I was actively drying the basement. And possibly a damp plate, from quick drying, shrank. Although I do not know if this could be ???
The second more likely reason is a wooden column, which I installed exactly above the basement this winter (I don't know what I thought).
And just on the opposite side of the crack. Now I think to remove this masterpiece.
There are many theories, but the only way out is further control.
Until the crack is discovered, it does not grow.
About 0.5mm at its widest point ...
The floor is not finished yet, so there is time to watch.
