A mechanical timer almost started a fire in my house. What I ignored and what mistakes I made.
I have long wanted to test this simple but very useful device in practice. But I almost got problems instead of joy.
This is a continuation of the story about the arrangement of my basement.
How I started to deal with dampness, read in past articles on my channel.
To help the little fan, which alone was fighting the moisture in the room, I decided to put a small heat gun (if you can call it that).
Only 2000 watts, in comparison, is not much. But for a small basement, it will do.
And in order to save on electricity, I decided to try one miracle of technology.
A mechanical timer that allows you to turn on the devices automatically at any time you need.
I bought the easiest one. I think: "I'm not sorry, even if it doesn't work ..."
I switched on a heat gun for all 2000 watts through it.
I set the working hours at night to save electricity on a two-tariff meter.
✅ And everything was great, the walls were drying, I was happy, until I discovered an unpleasant thing.
One of the contacts melted, deformed, and also melted the socket where it was connected.
❗ If I did not check everything regularly, then it is not known what this would lead to, if I had left it all working for about a week.
But I was interested in the reason.
And there are not many options:
- The timer itself does not pull at the declared 3500 W. I would never put the device to the maximum, but from 2000 to 3500, a decent range ...
- Bad contact in the socket. The timer was included in the carrier, and there all the connectors were pretty worn out during the construction of the house.
In the end, the solution is simple.
I put the power of the gun at 1000 Wand the problem didn't recur. So besides yourself, it is better not to rely on anyone.
