Greetings to all lovers of country life, and those who still only dream about it. My construction continues, and on the eve of winter a new and important stage begins, which I did not manage to do last year.

Insulation of the foundation and a warm blind area.

And here, as in any business, there are some preparatory stages. And the main one is the preparation of the foundation surface for insulation.

I have a shallow foundation, or rather not deep at all. Only 100 mm is below the surface of the earth, and the remaining 300 are above.

I will put the insulation boards just below this depth.

But here the question arises.

And how to attach expanded polystyrene to the foundation.

The easiest option is special foam glue. But this requires a flat surface. And here you need to set boundaries!

I have seen several examples when people who call themselves professional builders brought the plane to just perfect condition. Like, this is how the insulation will reliably adhere to the entire surface.

And now the recipe from the self-builder.

I removed all strongly protruding parts, these are excess mortar from the first row of masonry and protruding waterproofing.

• I also cut off excess aerated concrete, since part of the insulation is found on the bottom of the masonry. The pleasure of course is still white from head to toe 😁.

✅ No need to pull the ropes and check the plane. All bends or steps are irrelevant. Where the expanded polystyrene is needed, it will press, and where it cannot, it is not needed.

One recipe for all the resulting irregularities is a fine finish.
