An undeservedly unpopular fertilizer worth using
Recently, in the comments under my article, a reader said "good does not need advertising", and I disagreed with him: there are a bunch of cool things that no one knows about. And then there is the category of "undeservedly forgotten", which includes straw.
Now summer residents and gardeners fertilize the soil mainly with manure, which is difficult to get and must also be brought, or with store-bought fertilizers like superphosphates.
I'm afraid there will be a storm of indignation in the comments, so let's skip the topic of the "usefulness" of superphosphates and turn to the title of the article: "An undeservedly unpopular fertilizer worth using."
And it's about straw.
An agronomist neighbor says that when straw decomposes, 2-2.5 times more nutrients get into the ground than from cow dung. We are all adults and we understand that the cow has already taken all the best from the grass and almost nothing of value has come to the manure.
After harvesting, I do not sow the area with siderates such as white mustard, but immediately sprinkle straw at the rate of 25-30 kilograms per 1 hundred square meters. September-October I let the straw lie down, and in November, before the frost, I dig up the ground 8-10 centimeters deep. So the straw is mixed with the ground and until next spring "ripens", giving the soil nutrients.
Pros of straw:
- it is cheaper than manure;
- you can even take it in your own car - the interior will not smell (as is the case with manure);
- more nutrients by 200-250%.
I also advise you to look at straw as an alternative to manure.
And your own lawn can also become a source of straw - anyway, during the summer you have to mow it 5-6 times, and you need to put the grass somewhere.
