I never thought that the "whiteness" with which the toilet is washed is used in water purification πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. Experimenting.

Use some kind of water treatment chemicals in your home? Most people would be very suspicious of this idea. And I decided to take a chance.

Deeper and deeper into the topic of water treatment, I discover all new, interesting things. And something surprises very much ...

In past articles on your channel, I explained what I would clean and why. Read to stay informed ...

Let's get down to practice today.

What conclusions can be drawn by looking at such water. The most obvious thing is the presence of iron.

Iron smell and taste (yes, for the sake of experiment, I tried it a little). Also, color changes over time: from more or less light to dark.

But at the same time, iron can be in an insoluble form (we see it as a color) and in a dissolved state (which is oxidized over time). And then there's organic iron... Oh yeah, besides all this, other metals may be present.

From all this confusion, it is clear that I understand little in chemistry, and in general, I am not an expert in this.

But in the end, the main thing is to know how to get rid of all this.

And the recipe turned out to be very interesting:

βœ… Sodium hypochlorite. A product that is used in the professional purification of the same tap water that flows in your home.

Chlorine, which is the strongest oxidizing agent, reacts with iron, transferring it from an undissolved state to a dissolved one, i.e. visible. This increases the rate of precipitation, which can already be filtered mechanically.

And the most interesting thing is that this sodium hypochlorite is nothing more than the familiar "whiteness".

❗ On any bottle you can see the composition: it is hypochlorite and water.

I try different doses.

At different dosages, I decided to see the effect of whiteness on dirty water. And here is a clear result.

  • The first container is just with water, which stood for a day, and the iron began to oxidize.
  • In the second, I added a dose of whiteness, and the water is already lighter.
  • In the third, the portion is larger, and the precipitate is already precipitating and the water is noticeably more transparent.
  • Well, and also the result, here you can already see both water and sediment.

Thus, the minimum dose of sodium hypochlorite is selected, which is needed for a given, specific water.

But not everything is so simple ...

It turns out that some organic substances can form toxic compounds with chlorine. And in my water it definitely is (4 meters above the ground).

That is, getting rid of iron, you can get some poison in the water.

At the same time, the same organic matter (scientific permanganate oxidizability), interferes with oxidation processes.

βœ… So, before deferrization, you need to use one more method of cleaning from organic matter.

But more on that in the following articles. subscribe to the channel, and like it πŸ‘. I learn new things further ...
