Jointer and surface planer in one. Eight months in a home workshop
In early November last year, I bought myself a small planer-thicknessing machine in my workshop.
Main characteristics - planing width 204 mm, planer table length 740 mm, thickness of the workpiece for the planer maximum 120 mm, minimum 5 mm. 1500 W motor, 9000 rpm.
Since then I have planed quite a lot on it. I did some work on order and for myself.
The machine has fully paid off during this time and has shown itself to be pretty good.
Recently I have been cutting oak boards on it. Copes perfectly.
The machine performs its function completely, although not everything is smooth in it.
It was not possible to check the chip removal in my conditions, so I immediately put the standard nozzles for chip removal aside.
I removed the limit switch that stood for these attachments and now only the on and off buttons work without an intermediate link.
I am not delighted with the support for the jointer, it has to be constantly checked for deviation from a right angle.
I plan to replace it, but my hands have not yet reached. Although I have already talked about one option for replacing this stop here.
The planer table is well suited for short boards, but in order to plan long boards on it, you need to get used to
When working on a thickness gauge, the feeding table moves out from vibration, although it keeps normally during jointing. Maybe I just do not fugue for a long time and he does not have time to move.
More often this machine works like a thickness gauge and when working I try not to overload it and follow the recommendations from the manufacturer.
Although in these recommendations there is a minimum setting for the planing depth of 1 mm. on oak planks, I prefer to set 0.5 mm of removal in one pass.
I also try not to drive the machine for a long time, and I determine the time when it is worth taking a break by the heating of the lower part of the machine.
Once I was sharpening with knives. The sound of planing can usually tell when the knives are dull. And he ruled sharpening on a homemade device.
I also published a note about this device here.
In general, this machine is still enough for my tasks. In the fall, I bought it for 18,000 rubles. The machine has already returned its value twice over the past 8 months.
I think that if handled wisely, this machine can last long enough. For small volumes, for small home workshops - this is a perfectly suitable option
