Facade cutters. Manufacturing of oak facades
Now I'm making a kitchen for myself. I decided to make the facades oak and using special cutters for the manufacture of facades.
Next, I will show you exactly which cutters I use, and at the same time I will tell you the sequence of making facades with such cutters.
First, of course, blanks for the facades are made.
For a better idea, I will give an example of calculating parts for a facade measuring 713x296 mm.
The vertical parts will be 713 mm in height of the facade. I chose the width for the frame 65 mm, and the thickness of the parts was 20 mm.
The cutter gives a depth of 9.5 mm. two 65 mm racks give 130 mm. Thus, the horizontal part is 296-130 + 19 = 185 mm.
The panel is made with the same calculation, only in addition I subtract 3 mm per side. 713-130 + 19-3 = 599 mm. The second dimension is practically known from the dimension of the horizontal part. 599x182x20 - the size of the blank for the panel
Then a profile is made on all vertical and horizontal facades.
All parts are milled face down, and it is worth making markings on them.
I set up the cutter so that I got such a profile.
The stop of the milling table was placed on the bearing.
The workpieces turned out to be wide, they were milled from two sides at once, then they were sawn and two parts were obtained.
After all the blanks have gone through this cutter, I set aside the horizontal parts for milling the counter profile.
The second cutter is adjusted according to the finished profile.
I always do a probe after tuning to make sure it is correct.
In my case, this probe also served as an emphasis-pusher for milling the ends. The profile is made on both sides and the milling of the probe is exactly suitable for pushing the part.
After milling the details of the frame, I moved on to the panels.
I have this cutter with a 12 mm shank. I thought that it would be difficult to mill in one pass, and the load on the mill would be decent, so I decided to make the panel in three passes.
After milling, I sawed the frame parts to size, then made a rounded edge on the outside of the frame and sanded all parts of the facades before assembly.
Now, more specifically, what kind of cutters are and where did I get them.
A couple of the profile - the counter profile took on aliexpress here.
The pane cutter also took on aliexpress here.
Frame facades proved to be just fine when milling oak: the details went like clockwork, but the panel cutter worked a little taut, but still coped with its task.
Similar cutters can be bought in Russia in sets of three cutters.
I don’t know how much they differ in quality from the Chinese, I didn’t have a chance to compare.
And in addition, a video clip for clarity.
