How to get rid of aphids in the garden. Down with charlatanism - folk methods don't work!
As an avid gardener, I hate wasting time on work that does not bring results. Such work includes the fight against aphids in the garden using folk methods! Today I will tell you which of the tips turned out to be "harmful", and what really worked!
How to get rid of aphids in the garden! "Bad" tips that don't work!
1. Insect Trapping Belt
This is an interesting invention. It works like this: specially created belts must be put on the tree trunk with the sticky side out. It is assumed that the sticky layer will stop the ants that carry the aphids through the trees. There will be no ants - there will be no aphids!
It seems that everything is logical here. Ants are indeed actively spreading aphids throughout the garden. BUT! First, the sticky layer gets clogged very quickly in the open air and ceases to be sticky. Secondly, ants are very smart, they quickly adapt and begin to build safe passages. And thirdly, aphids have a “winged phase”. At this time, insects can settle on young branches without the help of ants. So in the fight against aphids - the hunting belt is not so hunting!
2. Using the Coca Cola drink
This drink is good because it is versatile. It used to be used to treat depression in women, now it is used to prevent intestinal infections in children. And gardeners are trying to defeat aphids with it! And maybe someone did it. Again, everything is logical. In the composition - phosphoric acid. Insects, including aphids, are not very fond of her.
BUT! I do not recommend using Coca Cola to spray your garden plants. The drink contains a huge amount of sugar, which will attract other more unpleasant and serious pests.
3.Russian vodka... for sure you can not Russian
People's councils say that it is enough to put a lid with a spray bottle on a bottle of vodka, spray the plants, and the aphid will be destroyed! Ethanol vapors "intoxicate" the pests, they lose the ability to breathe, feed, and stay on the stems. This method is one of the most popular on the internet. BUT! It absolutely doesn't work!
The only effective method of dealing with aphids!
Of course, I want everything to be as safe and environmentally friendly as possible. But this is not always the case. People's councils work in closed greenhouses or with few pests. But for an open garden, they are completely ineffective.
A little more about aphids.
Most pests hibernate in the soil, in cracks in the bark of trees. The aphid lays eggs on the shoots at the base of the buds. Therefore, measures must be taken before the leaves bloom.
If you spray in early spring, before the leaves have opened, then most of the pests will die and you will not have to repeat the spraying. If this is not done, the fight against aphids will be impossible. Aphids will settle on the underside of the leaf, will secrete sap, which curls the leaves. No funds will get inside the leaf and will not get to the pests.
Processing branches with buds is the only effective method of controlling aphids. And it is worth using insecticides for spraying. Their choice in stores is huge.
