We spend this weekend in a warm atmosphere - visiting grandparents. We looked at the family album yesterday. And in old New Year's photos, next to the tree, I saw a watermelon. It is surprising that they managed to save it until the New Year. My grandmother said that the watermelons were well kept. But it turns out that in addition to watermelons, fresh cucumbers also fell on the New Year's table.

I will say in advance that this article is not an advertisement for cucumbers)) and has nothing to do with advertising)

It is not uncommon nowadays - nowadays vegetables, fruits and berries can be eaten all year round. But after all, in the childhood of my parents, refrigerators were a rarity. How then did cucumbers get on the table in winter? It turns out that the villagers managed not only to store vegetables for a long time using folk methods. But also grow them so that vegetables are fresh for the New Year's table. One of these methods was shared with me by my grandma. I think it might be useful for you too.

I wonder if someone tried to keep fresh cucumbers from their own garden until winter? Tell us if you did it! I've set out to try my grandmother's method. I will definitely tell you about my personal results!

It turns out that cucumbers were grown in this way in more ancient times - for royal feasts. It all began in ancient times, when our ancestors took a stick in their hands, made a tool of labor out of it, learned to plow the land and grow vegetables on it, namely, cucumbers and cabbage. Only together they give the effect thanks to which we can eat our own cucumbers in winter.

So, of course, preparation for such storage had to start in advance - at the beginning of summer. Because there is an important point - next to the cucumbers, you need to plant several cabbage bushes in the garden.

They begin to preserve the cucumbers when the cabbage head begins to curl up. Then, in the center of the cabbage head, it is necessary to place the tied cucumbers. You can have 2-3 pieces for one plug.

You don't need to pick cucumbers! You need to put cucumbers in the cabbage, without separating them from the whip.

The cucumbers will continue to grow inside the cabbage head. When they grow up, you can cut them off from the whip. And when cold weather sets in, cabbage forks are dug out with roots and part of the ground. Then they are placed in a cellar or basement for long-term storage with the roots up. It is necessary to maintain the correct temperature regime in the cellar in order to prevent rotting. So the cucumbers lie in the cabbage until they get to the New Year's feast.

The essence of the method is that the cabbage leaves block the access of light and air to the growing cucumber. For this experiment, it is better to take cucumbers not salad, but pickled varieties: Murom, Vyaznikovsky, debut, competitor, goosebumps, etc.

Of course, I realize that the method is not the easiest, and it would be easier to buy cucumbers in winter. Perhaps more profitable. But I still want to try!

Share, maybe you have your own secrets of long-term storage of vegetables? I'll take it on board!
