Making a wall panel for my kitchen
Greetings.
I continue to make a kitchen set for myself, and then I will tell you how I made a wall panel from oak.
It was necessary to make a panel measuring 2.2x0.6 meters. I made it from oak planks, which I glued to a plywood backing.
I cut thin blanks out of oak boards. I planed them up to 5 mm thick and glued them into small boards with an offset. I assembled the panels sequentially, making markings for gluing and joining adjacent parts.
It took me 2.5 meters of oak planks 50 mm thick and 110 mm wide for the whole panel.
The strips I got are 480x100 mm. This is the main part of the panel, and the edge got to the desired size from pieces of different lengths
When gluing the oak parts, I used homemade clamps for the upper clamp. I talked about them here.
I glued it to the joinery PVA with a small addition of construction PVA, because the joinery seemed to me too thick.
In the future, for some parts of the hood for the hood, the oak cladding was glued only to the joinery PVA. Glue spread on both sides.
The panel is long, and the clamps were made only 5 pieces and therefore had to be glued in two stages.
One more thing: plywood of a standard size is 152 cm, but 220 cm was needed. I simply applied an additional piece of plywood to the main one, and glued oak cladding on top of the joint. The result is a single panel.
Then I sanded the surface. In the rough, I sanded with a belt sander. Her review can be viewed here here.
The joints of the facing parts were putty in places.
Then final sanding and varnishing.
See the video for making this panel below.
I have already installed the kitchen and will show you what happened in the near future.
