If the level went astray and started to lie
I worked with a level today and remembered that several years ago it stopped showing the horizon. A level is such a thing, which is impossible to work in the absence of precision. But even when it seems to be already unusable, it is still a pity to throw it away. But, as it turned out then, there is a way that allows you to "reanimate" the level.
Surely many people have strayed dust on the shelves of their houses #building levels. Why are there "houses gathering dust", the shelves in the shops are also full of levels that do not show the horizon, no matter how regrettable it is. Therefore, I will share with you some tips - how to check if the level is lying, and if it is lying - then how it can be adjusted!
Is he lying or not?
I think the method is well known. But I decided to mention it. What if someone doesn't know!
The level must be placed on a flat surface. Compliance with the horizon in this case is not important. After that, with the help of a pencil, we outline the location of the level - we just draw stripes, tracing the tool rail. It is important to remember where the bubble is located.
Next, you need to deploy #level 180 ° and place it on the previously drawn silhouette. We observe the position of the bubble. If in both cases its position is the same, then the level is normal. If the positions are different, then the level incorrectly shows the horizon.
Check: is there any point in trying to restore the level?
As a rule, the building level is lost from a blow, most often after falls. Make sure the staff is level before attempting to adjust the level. To do this, it is worth applying to a flat plane - glass, a rule, etc. We determine by eye whether the geometry of the rail has changed. If the level is not bent anywhere, then it will still work, you just need to "set the reference settings" and set the bubble to zero.
How do I set up the reference horizon?
- Using a laser level. We apply the building level to the laser line, and expose the bubble. It can be compared to the bubble level, which is guaranteed to show the horizon correctly.
- Using an aquarium. Water is always a clear horizon. Adjust the level along the water line in the aquarium.
- A little school geometry:
At the level, place the capsule in the center. We apply the tool to the wall and draw a line along the bottom. Having turned the rail 180 °, we check that the capsule is still in the center, then we lean the level against the drawn line and draw another one. If the level incorrectly shows the horizon, then the lines will diverge.
For further adjustment, it is necessary to connect the divergent lines to make a triangle. Draw the base of the triangle along a plumb line. We measure the base and divide it into two equal parts. Draw a line from the top to the center of the base. This line will be the reference horizon. It remains only to lean the rail against it and set the capsule to zero.
It is worth fixing the capsule with super glue. Let it stay for a long time in its right, correct "reference" place!
