How I made a bent armrest for a sofa
Greetings.
In a recent publication, I gave drawings of such a sofa.
For those who are interested in these drawings, see the link at the end of the article.
And here I will tell you how I made bent armrests for this sofa.
I assembled the entire sofa from a 20 mm thick board, including the armrests.
As a template, I marked and sawed out the longest part.
And already for this detail I marked and cut out all the rest.
When marking with a template, it is convenient to bypass knots and other defects of the boards.
The first part-template I made strictly according to the markup, but the rest I cut out with some margin.
The armrest was glued from three layers with overlapping joints. When gluing, I also coated the ends of the parts with glue. The middle layer was additionally fixed against displacement with 25 mm thin nails. And the whole package of parts was tightened with clamps.
After drying, it was necessary to bring this blank to its final form. I first planed the strongly protruding parts with a plane.
And initially I walked along the bend with a rasp for a rough leveling, and then grinded it around on a drill.
The inner part was also sanded with a drill, only I used a grinding drum.
I tried to make the armrests the same in shape.
I first prepared all parts of the sofa for assembly and did preliminary assembly. He painted everything separately.
And here are the armrests after painting.
Collected the sofa on dowels. In more detail about the assembly, about the homemade assembly tool and about the nuances of drilling dowel holes with this device, I will tell in another publication.
The article with drawings of the sofa can be viewed here.
