Homemade additive router and how I used it in the manufacture of a sofa
Greetings.
In several recent publications, I talked about the sofa I made for my mother: I gave drawings and talked about making an armrest.
In this article I propose to see how this sofa was going.
And he was going to dowel with the help of a homemade additive mill. For those who doubt the reliability of such an assembly, this sofa serves for 5 years and continues to be durable and reliable.
The inexpensive DIOLD MEF-1.1 milling cutter served as the basis for a homemade filler mill.
Drawings for repeating this device can be downloaded from the links. The first - general drawings with the SketchUp model. These drawings can be adapted to any suitable router. The second - drawings for the router DIOLD MEF-1,1
For more convenient work, I shortened the springs on this router, since they were tight for me.
The advantage of this device is that you can accurately drill holes for dowels - according to the markings and with a given pitch.
Primary use when making a sofa it was just like that.
The part was marked for the first hole.
Then he moved the perpendicular stop of the device so that the hole was in the center of the workpiece and adjusted the depth for drilling.
And he made the first hole according to the marking, combining the line on the part and the line on the perpendicular stop in the fixture.
And then a guide dowel is installed into the device, which is inserted into the first drilled hole and the next hole is made.
So by "stepping" with this guide dowel, you can get the required number of holes for assembly through the newly drilled holes.
Additional use is drilling holes for dowels on a plane. In this case, the perpendicular stop is removed from the device.
With this device, you can connect parts not only perpendicular to the edge, but also at an angle.
First, the edge of the board is marked and a line is drawn along which you need to install the part and the first hole is marked.
A line parallel to the first is also marked. This line should be at a distance equal to the width of the fixture platform from the edge to the center of the cutter plus half the thickness of the board.
Along this line, a support bar is fixed with clamps, to which the router is pressed during operation.
After the first hole, a dowel is inserted and the next holes are made.
For narrow parts, to secure the guide block, I put another block of the same height as the first one next to it.
Thus, at first, the entire sofa was assembled dry without glue, and after painting the parts, it was assembled with glue.
The article with drawings of the sofa can be viewed here.
Thanks for reading. I would be glad to have your support in the form of a like and a subscription to the channel. And see other publications on the channel.
