Where is it more correct to start laying tiles: from the corner or from the center? Tips from a tiler with 20 years of experience

Where to start laying tiles - from walls or floors?

The correct answer is from the walls. And that's why. If you start with floors, you will have to wait for the glue to dry, which can take several days. At this time, it will be impossible to continue repairs in the room, and you will lose time. Most importantly, you can ruin the tiles on the floor when you move on to the wall cladding. No one is safe from falling materials or tools.

Is the starting point the corner of the room or the entrance to it?

Laying tiles on walls is usually started from the corner that catches the eye first when entering the room. But there are exceptions to this rule - when there are external corners in the room and they are clearly visible, then it is better to start laying from them.

Have you decided on a starting point and put markings on the walls (for beginners it is necessary to do)? You can start laying out the rows. Usually the lowest row is laid last. But the second and third lead along the entire perimeter of the room.

This is where many aspiring tilers make the critical mistake. First, one wall is faced - from floor to ceiling, and then they move on to another. In this case, the fillet weld will almost always be 2-4 cm, which looks terrible.

What if you decide to decorate the wall with a picture?

It's simple. Start with the center of the tile. Then move in different directions. And trim the tiles along the edges of the wall proportionally. With this layout, the drawing will be in the place where you planned it. Pull the marking cords diagonally to locate the center of the wall. The center will be at the point of their intersection.

Three options for laying tiles on the floor

1. You should start with the corner farthest from the door. This is done when this corner of the room is clearly visible.

2. If it is covered with plumbing fixtures, furniture or other objects, then it is better to start from the corner closest to the door.

3. In some cases, the best option is to start from the center of the room. For example, when a picture or pattern is placed in the center of the floor. To do this, using the diagonals, we define the center and at this point we expose the first four tiles. From them, we continue to lay the rows in both directions.

There is an excellent method for determining the suitable tile installation option.
It is necessary to measure the length of the row and divide the resulting coefficient by the width of the tile. If the number is less than half, then the laying of the floor tiles should be started from the beginning of the row. This saves material and makes your layout look neater!
