How to make joinery more durable. Concealed corner hardware.
Greetings.
This is a simple yet effective way to strengthen wood products. In some cases, it can be irreplaceable.
We are talking about corner blocks that add extra strength to wood products.
For example, for chairs, these wooden corners not only add strength, but also serve to secure the seat of the chair.
I myself have used this solution mainly in the manufacture of chairs. It really adds strength to the product. Even pine chairs do not loosen after several years of use and remain durable.
It is best to glue such additional fasteners by pressing it with self-tapping screws. This creates additional reliability of fasteners and rigidity of the product as a whole.
Also, wooden corners can serve for other tasks. For example, in old furniture I have seen glued corners on the back of a drawer. The bottom of the box was made of thin plywood, installed in grooves and additionally supported by several corners, similar to glazing bead, which were glued to the bottom of the box.
It is possible to use such wooden corners in other situations where they will be hidden. These can be tables, cornices, corner legs on cabinets, and the like.
