How to quickly and evenly weld the hinges? Instructions for beginners

click fraud protection

Greetings to the guests and subscribers of my channel. Today we are learning to weld the ears to the hinges evenly and beautifully, for their subsequent installation on doors or gates. The instruction is designed for beginners, as experienced welders can do this with their eyes almost closed.

For work, we need, of course, a welding machine and the loops themselves. You also need to prepare 4 ears (2 for each loop, respectively), a metal corner, as shown in the photo.

Next, we need an electrode with a diameter of 5 mm or any other rod with the same diameter.

We take 2 electrodes with a diameter of 4 mm and cut them in half, into 4 equal pieces.

We also need special conductor plates, which are needed to center the loop. The plates should be the same thickness as the hinges, this is important.

Let's get to work. We slightly open the vice so that you can install a corner in them as in the photo below. Then we place the 5 mm electrode in the center and the 4 mm electrode along the edges from it.

We put the loop on the electrodes, then put the ears in their places. Here it is important to install the ears so that their butt ends abut against the side electrodes, which are 4 mm in diameter, as in the photo below.

Next, we install the conductor plates. Each plate is installed opposite the lug and also rests against the electrode. They are needed so that there is no axial displacement of the loop.

Now the most important thing. Pay attention to the photo below. The white line is the conditional line of the center of the loop circle, We see that the eyelet has gone beyond the center of the circle, but this should not be. The ear must be returned to the center.

To do this, we use another 4 mm electrode, which we insert under the eyelet, as shown in the photo. We do the same on the other side of the loop, center the second eyelet.

Everything is ready. We set the current to 120 Amperes and make two tacks for each ear.

We do a similar procedure on the second loop, only in the mirror version. Well, this should be clear.

Now let's start welding. we begin to cook from the outside of the ear. Pay attention to the position of the electrode in relation to the loop. For the first seam, you do not need to write out any eights, we just smoothly lead the electrode along the seam.

For the outer seam, you can set a current of 100 Amperes.

Next, we make an inner seam. Here we set the current to 120 Amperes and hold the electrode at an angle like in the photo. If you hold the electrode evenly, as on the outer seam, then the slag will flow back into the bath and you will get many sinks. It won't be pretty.

And another important point. Begin to cook from the end of the loop and do not bring the seam tight in the seat, leave a distance of 1-2 mm to the loop finger. If there is no experience, then finishing the seam to the end, you just dirtied your finger with drops, but we do not need it.

So that is all. Loops with ears are ready. For reinforcement, you can impose another seam, which you already need to lead with a figure eight or a wavy line, lead it from the first seam to the loop body, and not to the ear.

Even if you have both left hands, then in this way your hinge will turn out to be even, there will be no kinks and the doors will work perfectly.

I will end on this. Add to bookmarks to anyone you need, or share with friends. With you was Mikhalych, all Peace and Good.
