What external blinds should be installed when replacing windows?

External roller shutters can be installed in several versions, depending on the stage of construction, aesthetic requirements. Full cover of the cassette, into which the roller shutter armor is rolled, under the facade is possible if a special roller cassette is installed in the lintel. However, it must be installed at the stage of erecting the external walls and creating a structural lintel above it. In this case, this is not an option.

Another option for storing the cassette is blinds placed between the lintel and the window frame. In the case of repairs in combination with the replacement of windows, they will be the easiest to use. They do not affect the thermal insulation of the wall and can be completely hidden. But they lower the window openings. This means less light in the interior and will not always be acceptable.

A third, frequently used solution is to install blinds on the outer wall of the house. They are installed after installing the windows, but before installing the thermal insulation. With a high insulation thickness, the cassette will only slightly protrude beyond the facade surface. However, where it is fixed, the heat of the jumper will be less, so it is worth providing additional insulation, for example, using an insulated cassette. A variant of this version are cassettes with roller shutters attached to the finished, already insulated facade. Then you can add blinds without interfering with thermal insulation and without replacing windows. Their advantage is the ease of installation and the fact that they do not worsen the thermal insulation of the wall in the lintel zone (we do not violate the thermal insulation). They are considered the least aesthetic.

The last option is blinds on the window frame. They are easy to put on because they are attached to an already installed window. However, this option is usually intended for fully finished homes, further reducing the window light (part of it is covered with a cassette). When replacing windows, it is better to use a cassette between the window frame and the lintel.
