A handy thing for marking without a tape measure

Friends, I sincerely greet everyone! After a short forced pause, caused by the need to repair the body, I return to you again. This time we will make a homemade product for drawing longitudinal lines exactly in the middle of a bar, board or rail without a measuring tool.

I will show you a demo version of the device that can be improved based on personal tasks. To make it I take a piece of plywood 15 cm long, but you can take a scrap of a slightly processed thin strip.

I put three marks: one in the center and one more at the same distance from it, in this case 5 cm. Although 10 cm comes out between the extreme marks, this is not particularly important, the main thing is that the distance from them to the cent is the same.

In the place of the middle mark, I drill a hole under regular pencil. It may be more convenient for you to use a marker, a self-tapping screw or an ordinary nail for marking, so when choosing the diameter of the center hole, proceed from this. And at the places of the extreme marks, I screw through through a self-tapping screw of medium length - 4-5 cm.

I put a pencil sharpened under it in the middle hole so that the rod protrudes from the back side by a couple of millimeters.

This completes the device! It remains to check how it works. To do this, I install it on top of the bar and unfold it so that the screws on both sides rest against the ends of the bar, after which I begin to pull along the rail. As a result, the pencil leaves a line exactly in the middle!

If the screws turned out to be longer than the thickness of the bar or board and this is inconvenient, they need to be unscrewed to the desired height and that's it.

It is this device that is suitable for drawing lines on a beam up to 10 cm wide. And for wider samples, you will have to make a larger scaler.
