It is not worth clamping the nut on the bolt, on the contrary, it must be released so that the corners can be pushed apart at least 35-40 degrees. Note that the nut is gripped by the corners very reliably and will never be able to jump out to the side, unless it slides back and then rarely.
The closer to the junction of the corners to insert the nut, the easier it is to crush it. Usually I manage to chop a nut even with one hand, and with the other I hold it so that the fragments do not fly around so much.
However, if the design turned out to be too heavy for you, for example, for a woman's hand, then one corner can be placed on some surface, and the other can be calmly pressed even with two hands.
