Pebble mosaic laying technology

I propose to look at an inexpensive, but rather laborious way (as well as examples) of creating unique surfaces for summer cottages:

Agree, very beautiful, one might say, unique in their appearance paths. The second example resembles a drawing of the floors of Roman villas. But they are not made of ceramic mosaic, but of ordinary pebble. If you wish, you can do something similar yourself. I will briefly describe several options.

The floors of Roman villas, preserved to this day due to the fact that they were covered with soil. Made of ceramic colored mosaics. Can you imagine how long it took the master (or maybe more than one) to make them. Who is retired and who has a lot of personal time - why not make a similar one, but from pebbles.

You will need pebbles sorted by shape, size, and color. Its price: 800-1000 rubles / bag. On sale in almost any city. Preparing the base - remove the sod and ram the sand (pillow). Next, you need to apply a drawing on the sand (a couple of nails and a rope will help). We lay out the pattern that we have in mind according to the picture. And the pattern itself can be invented or spied on the Internet.

Here the photo shows that the mosaic is simply covered with sand. But then the track will be short-lived. You need to fill the pattern with concrete. We make it so that the concrete milk is partially absorbed into the sand 2-3 cm lower. We dilute the solution 1 to 2. After leveling the concrete over the surface, take a sponge soaked in water and erase the concrete from the stones. We rinse it in water, squeeze it and repeat until the stones are clean. The process is very similar to the "washed concrete" technology used in Southeast Asia.

Concrete can be tinted with pigment. If you could not purchase pebble of various colors, you can purchase a dyed one. There are also many such proposals. There are even offers with luminescent paint.

Very high quality and beautiful work. This will take many hours of work. Not everyone is capable of doing this.

Another variant. Here, in parts, a drawing was printed in real size, formwork was made on it, each was poured with concrete and pebbles were laid in concrete according to the scheme (each slab with a drawing is in a separate formwork). The slabs were then transported to the installation site. This is already a job for professionals in production.

The third way: to fill a section of a track or a platform with concrete and have time to lay out the mosaic before the strength gains. You can fill in segments and lay out the drawing in the same way. I think this is the most reliable method in terms of fixing stones.

If you get a large pebble, almost a cobblestone, then such a platform can be laid out quickly enough. It is also laid in concrete. But it will be necessary to make expansion joints - compensation for thermal expansion-contraction of concrete.

A short video with an example of how you can lay out a pebble mosaic into concrete. The plus of such a track is that it does not scratch, concrete does not chip. If some kind of stone flew out, then it can be glued back onto polyurethane glue.
