Auckland Scenic Area Davenport - Architectural Heritage Site

Davenport is one of the oldest suburbs in Auckland (New Zealand). Once it was on an island, but the sea washed away the land and formed a bay. Now this fashionable area is located opposite the city itself, across the strait, and offers magnificent views of Auckland.

There are many old villas in the vicinity. They are cherished as architectural monuments, although people still live in them. Many such structures, even those built a hundred years ago, are perfectly preserved, although they are made of wood. Why so - we will tell in the next article.

The entire area is the country's architectural and cultural heritage. And here there is one peculiarity - any actions with houses must go through a strict state inspection. This applies not only to the facts of purchase and sale - even deciding to renovate an old building, or expand your garden with new trees, you will face some difficulties.

Here, the conditions for the maintenance and repair of buildings, the care of the sites themselves are carefully checked. If such a villa needs renovation, it is allowed to restore or erect new walls inside, as well as on the back of the house. The front view must be left as it was originally, so as not to get out of the general composition of the old street. In order to simply paint the walls of the facade, a special permit is required.

Despite the fact that the houses are essentially old, housing here is catastrophically expensive. The area bears the unspoken name of a millionaire. But in fact, here you will not find a house worth less than a million dollars. Many houses are decorated with wood carvings, huge windows, stained-glass windows, and the white color loved by New Zealanders - these houses look really chic. Almost all plots have access to the sea, the windows offer beautiful views of the city. Everywhere there are flowers, gardens, everything is buried in greenery.

The plots of each house are large enough, in addition, there is a lot of land that is not covered by the property. The entire coastline is either a well-groomed beach, or natural accumulations of black volcanic rocks, or just a green park. There is where to walk and relax your soul.

Would you agree to live in such a luxurious, but rather ancient villa? After all, if you think about it, its content requires colossal investment and effort. But living here is very prestigious.
