Are all residents of Stolberg (Germany) aesthetes?

As soon as I saw this town, I asked myself such a question and, walking around it, answered: yes!

So friends and colleagues made fun of me when I gathered in Stolberg. They wondered: what is there to watch and do for a whole week? Go to Berlin! But no, I was definitely not mistaken with the choice. Not only is this settlement in the Ardennes old, but also each of its houses, along with the courtyard, is a true masterpiece.

Apparently, local residents believe that an unadorned residential building is a shame for the owner, so there is an incredible amount of decor in the decoration of their houses. And most importantly, it is individual, peculiar. If some families do not have a local area, then they try to ennoble the windowsills with plants, and the windows with cozy curtains.

Or they use forged elements: coats of arms, emblems and figures on the walls, filigree lattices.

Doorbells are not used here - instead, metal rings are preferred, as in the old days. That is, when they come to visit, they do not call here, but knock.

Floristic decoration

There is certainly a flower arrangement near any building. If it is not the season for geraniums or pansies, then it is made up of dried flowers or artificial bouquets that authentically imitate living ones. Complement these green ensembles with fruits, vegetables, pumpkins, mushrooms and even corn cobs.

Other options

I liked how skillfully the townspeople combine different and seemingly incompatible materials in their decoration: tree branches, fragments of old stumps, stone blocks.

Front garden fences are regularly tinted, choosing bright, positive shades.

Near a respectable house building, I came across a stylized cannon mounted on a straw substrate. Thanks to this scenery, I remembered that I was walking in the same places along which Napoleon's army moved in the past - from Monschau towards Belgium.

In general, I was fascinated by the improvement of this wonderful town. Isn't it time for us to slowly turn our gray domestic province into something more colorful and cheerful - what do you think?
